Two central Hänel Rotomat® storage systems as SAP-based component depot for postseries production

Two Hänel Rotomat® storage systems serve as an integral part of an ultra-modern Industry 4.0 production site operated by Bosch. They store components for ABS and ESP® systems for post-series supply and are linked with the central SAP ERP solution via SOAP interface.

The Hänel Rotomat® is an outstanding intralogistics solution for storing large numbers of diverse components that are produced in small quantities. The storage lift systems with ESD protection also safeguard sensitive electronic components.

The Hänel storage carousels are seamlessly integrated in the logistics concept and optimally tuned with existing processes

The MP 12 N-StandAlone Lcontroller dynamically allocates storage positions within the system to ensure fully automated and reliable storage processes. Thanks to the standard integration of the SOAP protocol an interface is easily set up between the Hänel controllers and the SAP system at Bosch – without additional middleware. The management solution integrated as a standard feature in the lift controllers allocates the storage positions depending on the size of the bins or boxes.

Optimized intralogistics processes with the Hänel interface linking storage systems to SAP

If components from the storage system are required for post-series production, SAP creates an order and sends a transport command via the SOAP interface to the Hänel systems. At the same time, a retrieval order is printed and the barcode on the order is scanned to start the retrieval process.

After order confirmation, the Hänel Rotomat® immediately transports the requisite shelf to the access point, and the Hänel compartment and sub-level indicator shows the employee which box contains the items requested. The entire box is retrieved and then sent to the assembly line.

Worldwide communication through a central ERP infrastructure

The central ERP infrastructure supports global communication among all company sites. For example, thanks to the integration of the Hänel Rotomat® systems via SOAP interface, even items from remaining stocks at other sites can be requested. The entire inventory status data is available at all times and at all company locations worldwide.

Saving valuable production floor space and the seamless middleware-free SAP integration were key factors that influenced the Bosch Blaichach/Immenstadt decision to adopt the Hänel intralogistics solution!

„Only Hänel could offer the option of sending SAP pick and put orders to the lift systems via the web service interface (SOAP)!“
